訪談設(shè)計(jì)師：Carlos Ribau

Carlos Ribau，葡萄牙工業(yè)設(shè)計(jì)師，他是在陶瓷衛(wèi)浴和水龍頭、實(shí)用陶瓷和照明設(shè)計(jì)領(lǐng)域的佼佼者，2017德國(guó)紅點(diǎn)獎(jiǎng)的獲獎(jiǎng)人之一，他的設(shè)計(jì)旨在提升人們的可持續(xù)發(fā)展意識(shí)，注重通過產(chǎn)品傳達(dá)生活中各種資源循環(huán)利用的價(jià)值。不畏懼挑戰(zhàn)的他，今天帶給我們的會(huì)是怎樣一則有趣的故事呢？

Narkii:

您能不能為我們講講您為什么會(huì)選擇工業(yè)設(shè)計(jì)這個(gè)行業(yè)？跟您平時(shí)的興趣愛好有關(guān)嗎？

Could you please tell us why would you choose industrial design as your work? Is it related to your personal interests and hobbies?  

Carlos Ribau:

我一直以來(lái)就對(duì)社交行為以及人們是如何與周圍的物體進(jìn)行互動(dòng)的很感興趣，常常注意細(xì)小任務(wù)，以及它們?yōu)楹螘?huì)如此簡(jiǎn)易并體現(xiàn)文化差異和不同風(fēng)味。

很快我就意識(shí)到我會(huì)成為一個(gè)產(chǎn)品設(shè)計(jì)師。

I've always been interested in social behavior and how people interact with the objects around them. Pay attention to small tasks and how they could be easier,cultural differences and tastes,etc.

Soon it began obvious to me that I would became a Product Designer.  

Narkii:

您設(shè)計(jì)的產(chǎn)品涵蓋多個(gè)領(lǐng)域，從兒童玩具到家居用品再到廚房衛(wèi)浴，這對(duì)于您的設(shè)計(jì)思維會(huì)不會(huì)產(chǎn)生比較大的跳躍性與跨度性呢？

Your designing products have covered many areas, from children's toys to household articles and kitchen bath supplies, can it produce great jump and span to your design thinking?

Carlos Ribau:

只在一個(gè)領(lǐng)域工作，對(duì)于項(xiàng)目技術(shù)方面的發(fā)展是有好處的，但在某種意義上卻會(huì)讓你不可避免地開啟機(jī)械性的思維模式，你會(huì)過多的關(guān)注工業(yè)進(jìn)程而忽視與用戶之間的可用性與交互性。

在不同的領(lǐng)域工作可以為多個(gè)工業(yè)流程提供一定的壓力，同時(shí)不斷激發(fā)創(chuàng)造性思維。

To work in only an area it is good to develop the technical aspects of the project, but at a certain point is inevitably that you will start to have a "mechanical" thinking. You will pay more attention to the industrial process and less the usability and interaction with the user.

To work in different areas gives baggage in several industrial processes and at the same time keeps stimulating the creative thinking.

Narkii:

設(shè)計(jì)品類多種多樣，您有沒有比較偏愛某一類設(shè)計(jì)呢？比如家具產(chǎn)品設(shè)計(jì)、廚房衛(wèi)浴產(chǎn)品設(shè)計(jì)或兒童玩具系列的設(shè)計(jì)？

There is various of designing categories, do you have a preference for a certain type of design? Such as the design of household articles, kitchen bath supplies or children’s toys?

Carlos Ribau:

不，我沒有任何設(shè)計(jì)類別的偏好。我所設(shè)計(jì)的產(chǎn)品來(lái)源取決于客戶給我提供的機(jī)會(huì)或當(dāng)我看到某樣?xùn)|西可以被設(shè)計(jì)成一個(gè)有效的產(chǎn)品時(shí)由我自己開發(fā)出的機(jī)會(huì)。

No, I don't have preference in any design category. It depends on the opportunities that appear booth given by a client or developed by me when I see something that could be valid as a product.

Narkii:

您認(rèn)為在為兒童設(shè)計(jì)玩具類產(chǎn)品時(shí)，除了安全性與趣味性，還應(yīng)該具備什么因素？對(duì)于兒童玩具類產(chǎn)品，您一般會(huì)加入什么設(shè)計(jì)元素呢？

In the design of children toys, except security and fuuny, which elements do you think should also be considered? As for the children toys, what designing elements you will add in generally? 

Carlos Ribau:

我認(rèn)為兒童類的產(chǎn)品也應(yīng)該能夠激發(fā)互動(dòng)性，同時(shí)適合在預(yù)期年齡中進(jìn)行某些方面的教學(xué)。

I think that objects for children should also stimulate interaction and be pedagogical in some aspect suitable for the intended age.

您認(rèn)為設(shè)計(jì)與生活是一種什么樣的關(guān)系？一個(gè)創(chuàng)新型的設(shè)計(jì)能為人們帶來(lái)什么？

In your opinion, what is the relationship between design and daily life? What benefits a new creative designing work can bring to people?

Carlos Ribau:

設(shè)計(jì)是日常生活中的重要組成部分，它對(duì)人們會(huì)產(chǎn)生各種不同的影響。我們很難定義物品對(duì)人所產(chǎn)生的直接或間接的聯(lián)系。

我相信設(shè)計(jì)應(yīng)該在“少即是多”的方法與能夠和用戶建立情感關(guān)系的東西之間取得平衡。

我們更多的是應(yīng)該考慮工業(yè)設(shè)計(jì)中的可持續(xù)解決方案。從項(xiàng)目到工業(yè)進(jìn)程，減少浪費(fèi)是尤為重要的。

由于人類生活對(duì)這個(gè)世界造成了污染，市場(chǎng)正向一個(gè)清醒的狀態(tài)轉(zhuǎn)變，即使需要花費(fèi)更多的錢，人們也開始選擇購(gòu)買可持續(xù)性產(chǎn)品。我相信這個(gè)趨勢(shì)在未來(lái)幾年會(huì)繼續(xù)增長(zhǎng)。

Design is a big part of the daily life and we can see it having different types of influence on people. It’s too complex to define all the relations direct or indirect that objects have on people.

I believe design should have a balance between a “l(fā)ess is more” approach with something that creates an emotional relation with the user.

More and more we have to look at sustainable solutions in industrial design. From the project to the industrial process it’s important to reduce waste.

The market is changing to a more conscious mentality because of the pollution created by human life in our world. People are starting to choose sustainable products even if they have to pay more. I believe this tendency will grow in the next years.

當(dāng)您為客戶設(shè)計(jì)某個(gè)產(chǎn)品或者當(dāng)您的產(chǎn)品投入市場(chǎng)后，得到客戶或市場(chǎng)的反饋沒有預(yù)期的好，換句話說，有消費(fèi)者認(rèn)為這件產(chǎn)品實(shí)用性不高，您會(huì)怎么對(duì)待這樣一件事情呢？

When you design a product for your client or after your designing products put on the market, the feedback from your client or the market may not as good as your expectation, in other words, some consumers may think the product has less practicability, how will you treat such things?

Carlos Ribau:

這是事實(shí)，并不是所有的結(jié)果都是我們從市場(chǎng)上期望得到的。但是產(chǎn)品本身不足以讓它找到合適的用戶。一個(gè)產(chǎn)品要想成功，許多方面就必須要與它保持一致，比如價(jià)格、分銷方式或市場(chǎng)等。

很多不好的產(chǎn)品都取得了很大的成功，也有很多優(yōu)秀的產(chǎn)品未出售。

這并不意味著設(shè)計(jì)永遠(yuǎn)是對(duì)的。如果產(chǎn)品可以糾正，我會(huì)嘗試進(jìn)行必要的調(diào)整，如果不是，我會(huì)把這些錯(cuò)誤當(dāng)成未來(lái)項(xiàng)目的學(xué)習(xí)經(jīng)驗(yàn)。

It's true, not always the result is what we expect from the market. But the product by it self is not enough to get to the right user. There are a lot of aspects that have to be aligned for the product to be successful such as price, distribution, marketing, etc.

A lot of bad products have lots of success and there are a lot of exceptional products that don't sell.

It doesn't mean the design is always right, if the product can be corrected I try to make the necessary adjustments, if not I use the mistakes as a learn lesson for future projects.

您設(shè)計(jì)產(chǎn)品的靈感來(lái)源一般來(lái)源于何處？是突發(fā)性的還是是從生活中的某件事受到啟發(fā)而產(chǎn)生了設(shè)計(jì)靈感？

Where does the inspiration source come from when you design a product? Is it comes from suddenly or inspired by something from your life?

Carlos Ribau:

看情況而定，但我通常喜歡互動(dòng)。觀察人類的行為，找到一些可以幫助完成產(chǎn)品設(shè)計(jì)任務(wù)的東西。當(dāng)審美很重要時(shí)，我喜歡與用戶所熟悉的文化方面相聯(lián)系或與其他對(duì)象進(jìn)行類比。但這沒有一個(gè)固定公式，所有項(xiàng)目都是不同的，而且有它們自己的特殊性。

It depends but usually I like to "play" with interactions. Looking to human behavior and find something that could help the task in which the product was made for. When the aesthetic is important I like to relate with cultural aspects familiar to the user or make analogies with other objects. But there is no formula, all projects are different and have their own particularities.

您目前有在進(jìn)行新的設(shè)計(jì)項(xiàng)目嗎？是關(guān)于哪一類的產(chǎn)品設(shè)計(jì)呢？方便跟我們講講嗎？如果沒有，您有沒有打算開啟一個(gè)全新的設(shè)計(jì)項(xiàng)目？

Do you have any new designing items in progress at present? Is it convenient for you to tell us which designing product it belongs to? If not, do you plan to get down to design a brand-new item?

Carlos Ribau:

我正與一家葡萄牙公司開展多個(gè)合作項(xiàng)目，這是一家生產(chǎn)照明產(chǎn)品的公司，我是他們的永久設(shè)計(jì)師。

作為一個(gè)自由設(shè)計(jì)師我設(shè)計(jì)了一個(gè)新產(chǎn)品，它是一款便攜式香熏擴(kuò)散器，即將由來(lái)自廣東省的一家中國(guó)公司Ultransmit發(fā)布，我很高興看到最終產(chǎn)品以及市場(chǎng)對(duì)它的反饋。

At the time I'm working in several projects with Exporlux, a Portuguese company that develops and produces lighting products in which I’m a permanent designer.

Has a Freelance Designer I have designed a new product that it's about to be released by Ultransmit, a Chinese company from the province of Guangdong. It is a Portable Aroma Diffuser and I'm very exited to see the final product as well as the reaction of the market to it.

您設(shè)計(jì)的產(chǎn)品在2017年獲得紅點(diǎn)獎(jiǎng)后，對(duì)您自己與您的設(shè)計(jì)生涯有沒有產(chǎn)生什么影響？

What are the impacts on you and your designing career after you won the Red Dot Design Award in 2017?

Carlos Ribau:

除了能與世界上最好的品牌和設(shè)計(jì)師在一起的經(jīng)歷，它為我提供了參與新項(xiàng)目的機(jī)會(huì)。一些公司對(duì)我的產(chǎn)品很感興趣并且找我討論設(shè)計(jì)新產(chǎn)品。非常棒！

就個(gè)人而言，它并沒有為我?guī)?lái)太多改變，因?yàn)槲艺J(rèn)為我們不能去過高評(píng)價(jià)這個(gè)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)，但可以肯定的是它給了我更多的信心。

Beside the experience of being with the best brands and designers of the world, it gave me opportunity to work in new projects. Companies are interested in my work and they come to me to discuss new products. It is great!

Personally It didn't change much because I think we shouldn't overestimate the prizes, but for sure it gave me more confidence.
